The relationship between Lou and Brady is quite complex.
She clearly relies on him for support as seen here when she confides in him :
Can we blame Lou for having this expression with all of the crap she has to put up with ?
Even after she gets fired, she probably still feels the same way , that Brady has her back even though he was powerless to do anything.
Post firing, she returns to the store in this gear :
Even later, when she is grilled by Bill Hodges, she refers to Brady as " the sweetest guy. "
She just cant believe he would do anything bad although she seemed to be suspicious after Brady had killed the customer who had been rude and unpleasant to her.
Poor Lou. She completely mis-judged Brady, not knowing his true psychopathic nature. Even when she confronted him at the fairground, maybe she still hoped there was good in him.
But no , he just attacked her and left her for dead. I cant emphasise enough how powerful this scene plays because of Breeda Wool's superb acting. She fully conveys Lou's confusion, shock and terror.
Thankfully, Lou survived and is now recuperating in hospital.
But almost certainly she will be traumatised and nervous.
What does the future hold ?
She might end up as manager of the store.

ASPECTS OF LOU
Technically, Lou doesn't exist in the novel of Mr Mercedes.
The name of the character is different and doesn't feature half as much in the drama.
So it could be argued that Lou is an entirely original creation.
Lets face it, we've all known a Lou in our lives at some point.
The one who doesn't fit in or conform.
The one who gets bullied or picked on.
As Lou told Brady " there's a lot of mean out there. "
Very true.

THE CAST SHOT
The positioning of Lou in this cast portrait is most intriguing .
She almost seems to be shadowing Brady, sticking to him like glue.
It suggests that she is almost too reliant on him to be her support.
As if she were his devoted follower.
More on this in my next post.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG !
Greetings fellow Lou-ites !
If you are reading this blog, I can only assume that like me, you are a giant fan of Lou Linklater , one of the most striking and original characters to have appeared on tv for quite some time.
Here's a nice pic of Lou, played so superbly by Breeda Wool :
I hadn't expected to stick with Mr Mercedes but I was surprised at how compelling it was. The character of Lou kind of snuck up on me. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of her. ( definitely a good sign )
I'll admit right now, I thought Lou was meant to be a trans woman or someone like that. Then I realised she was just herself. She was Lou. And she was AWESOME.
More to come so stay tuned !
